You think BJJ or MMA is different for women than for men?
I think a woman’s body is different to a man’s body purely from an anatomical point of view. However, I think it is important to train with both genders in order to become a good fighter. The more you vary your training partners , the better and more versatile you become. For me, it’s just more fun to train with guys as well.
What is your biggest motivation to keep up the hard training?
I just love it and I have a great team behind me.
What is BJJ/MMA standing for you?
In BJJ I can use my knowledge from judo, however my judo throws need some refinement to become more effective in BJJ.
MMA stands for very hard training, and I love reaching my limits and go beyond.
How did you get into BJJ/MMA?
Before I got into BJJ/MMA I was training hard in two totally different martial arts (Hapkido and Shaolin Kung Fu). But I somehow felt that something was missing. While watching Judo at the Olympics in 2008, (Judo was my first passion), it hit me and I decided I needed to find something where I could fight again, in addition to practising my current martial arts.
So a friend and I checked out different locations before going for a trial training to Augusto Frota’s place in Oct. 08. Now we are in January 2010 and I ended up participating in several national and international competitions and training BJJ/MMA 5x a week. I still remember the phone conversation with Augusto (after my first trial training), when he told me I should compete. First, I thought he must be crazy–today I say THANK YOU !!!!
Favourite BJJ Technique:
Currently it is the armbar, however I love chokes as well
What do you consider your biggest strength?
My energy, motivation and dedication
How do you merge your job with BJJ/MMA and how you do with the time schedule?
Luckily I have an office job, so my body is craving for exercise in the evening. During times of high pressure at my job, I just go training in between to let some steam off then go back to finish my work, refreshed and focused. There is always a way to sort things out if you want to.
What is your biggest win in your BJJ career? IBJJ European Championships 2010
You train so hard and so often, is there space for a boyfriend in your life?
;-) for sure there is….
